Diese Wandskulptur kommt recht stylish daher, hat allerdings einen tieferen Sinn. Ich gebe zu, ich esse gerne Fisch, ob dieser nun gesund ist oder nicht, es ist ein Streitthema. Und natürlich schwingt das Thema Überfischung bzw. illegaler Fischfang mit jedem Bissen mit. Dieses Werk entwickelte sich unverhofft. Der anfangs – in jeder Hinsicht – harmlose Walhai mit Echtglas-Spiegelfliesen erzählte mir allein nicht genug. Und so kamen eine schwarze Platte nebst Sushi hinzu. Eine kurze Recherche ergab, dass auch Walhaie teilweise auf Tellern landen. Ob man dieser Quelle trauen kann? Ich bin nicht sicher. Dennoch ist dieses Werk ein Statement.

This wall sculpture appears quite stylish, but it has a deeper meaning. I admit that I enjoy eating fish, whether it is healthy or not is a matter of debate. And, of course, the issue of overfishing and illegal fishing resonates with every bite. This work developed quite unexpectedly. The initially harmless whale shark with real glass mirror tiles didn’t tell me enough by itself. So I added a black plate and sushi. A quick research revealed that whale sharks sometimes end up on plates. Can we trust this source? I’m not sure. Nevertheless, this work is a statement.
